Often people ask, “What is Emergency Management?" Emergency Management is the process of preparing for, mitigating, responding to and recovering from an emergency. Emergency Management is a dynamic process. These functions, though critical, are not the only component. Training, conducting drills, testing equipment and coordinating activities with the communities are other important functions.
The job of the Emergency manager is defined by law. It does however, have a moral basis. The emergency manager must balance the duties authorized and required by law with the moral obligation of the public employee to do everything possible to protect and preserve the safety of citizens of Custer County.
Emergency Management is much more than just monitoring weather. We are a resource and support agency for other emergency services.
